A fleet of 349 new-generation buses is being deployed to modernize public transport in Marrakech and its surrounding areas, as part of a major restructuring project led by the Marrakech Transport Group of Local Authorities (GCT). Of the total, 207 buses are already in service, 127 are in the acquisition process, and 15 electric buses are pending delivery.
The project represents an investment of nearly 717.48 million dirhams, complemented by 110.31 million dirhams dedicated to modern operational and passenger information systems aimed at improving service quality and user experience.
The future network will comprise 25 lines, including three electric routes, covering 281 kilometers and raising network coverage to 83.5%, with the goal of serving all neighborhoods of the Red City and its outskirts.
The initiative also includes a major overhaul of the semi-urban network, which will expand from 22 lines covering 837 km (with a coverage rate of 17%) to 39 lines spanning around 1,060 km, increasing coverage to 29.1%.
Speaking to MAP, Zakaria Bellouchi, Director of the Urban and Semi-Urban Transport Management Company of Marrakech, said the new buses are equipped with advanced technologies, including modern ticketing systems, accessibility features for people with disabilities, surveillance cameras, and Wi-Fi, designed to enhance both service efficiency and passenger comfort.
