Egypt triumphs over Zimbabwe 2-1 in AFCON 2025 opener in Agadir

The Egyptian national football team triumphed over Zimbabwe with a 2-1 victory in the opening match of Group B at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025), held on Monday evening at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir.

Zimbabwe initially seized the lead in the 20th minute through a goal by Prince Dube. However, Egypt leveled the score in the 64th minute with a strike from Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian side then secured their win in stoppage time, courtesy of a goal by Mohamed Salah (90+1).

Earlier in the day, South Africa also emerged victorious, defeating Angola with a 2-1 scoreline in another Group B encounter.

Following this first matchday, Egypt and South Africa sit atop the Group B standings, each boasting three points.

The next round of Group B matches is set for Friday, with Angola facing Zimbabwe and Egypt taking on South Africa.
