The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) has launched the PRIS-AFCON initiative, a program aimed at involving inmates in Moroccan prisons as part of the celebrations surrounding the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025).
Aligned with its strategy to strengthen the human and social dimensions of prison life, the program will begin next Thursday with a mini-football tournament. The event will bring together 150 African inmates representing 15 nationalities at the Tamesna local prison, which will host both the opening and closing ceremonies, according to a DGAPR statement.
As part of the initiative, AFCON matches will also be broadcast in prison cells and communal areas. Inmates will further take part in interactive sessions with former athletes, journalists, and figures from the sports and civil society sectors through workshops and discussion activities.
Several prisons, including Oudaya in Marrakech, Tanger 2, Ras El Ma in Fès, the Casablanca reform and rehabilitation center, and Aït Melloul in Agadir, will organize football matches in partnership with local clubs.
Through sports, discussions, and cultural activities, the PRIS-AFCON program aims to create a festive atmosphere that promotes coexistence, fair play, and a shared African identity within prison facilities.
