Moroccan police in Agadir, acting in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested a 37-year-old man on Friday, December 26, on suspicion of illegally reselling tickets for matches of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently held in Morocco.

According to the DGST, cyber-monitoring units from the national police had detected social media posts offering AFCON tickets for sale through illegal channels. Technical investigations and field inquiries led to the identification of the suspect, who was arrested near a large shopping complex in Agadir.

Search and seizure operations conducted as part of the investigation resulted in the recovery of multiple football match tickets linked to the AFCON tournament, as well as the seizure of a sum of money suspected to be proceeds of the illegal activity.

The suspect has been placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to determine the full circumstances of the case and establish all criminal acts attributed to him, the DGST said.

Earlier in the competition, Moroccan authorities announced the arrest of eight people across six cities on suspicion of illegally reselling AFCON tickets. The suspects were apprehended during coordinated security operations in Rabat, Temara, Agadir, Salé, Marrakech, and Mohammedia.
