Spain flags cadmium in Moroccan tomato shipment
DR

Spanish authorities have issued a notification under the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) after detecting cadmium in a shipment of tomatoes from Morocco.

The alert, registered in late December 2025 under reference 2025.10314, reported a cadmium level of 0.068 mg/kg, above the EU maximum limit of 0.05 mg/kg, based on a sample taken on November 19.

Classified as an information notification for attention, the case did not lead to further action, and the shipment was released, according to the RASFF database. It is the third RASFF notification in December 2025 involving Moroccan products, following earlier alerts, including one related to excessive pesticide residues in chili peppers, which were later withdrawn from the market.
