The esteemed cartoonist Tarik Bouidar, known as Rik at the newspaper L’Économiste and Carlos on the website Le360, passed away overnight from Thursday to Friday at a clinic in Casablanca, where he had been receiving treatment for a chronic illness. He was 50.

Over the years, Bouidar developed a distinctive visual signature, turning his cartoons into a recognizable style that left a lasting mark on the Moroccan press.

A graduate of the École supérieure de communication et de publicité (Com Sup), Tarik Bouidar made his illustrations a familiar and anticipated feature for readers of both publications.

A trailblazer of satirical cartooning in Morocco, the late artist used sharp humor to provoke reflection on contemporary issues, while maintaining a sense of nuance and subtlety.

According to Le360, Tarik Bouidar will be laid to rest on Friday at the Sidi Massoud Cemetery in Casablanca.
