In recent days, a case of sexual assault has come to light in the community of Tizi N'Isly, in the Beni Mellal region, although the events themselves date back nearly 20 years. According to local sources, several residents have finally decided to speak out in an effort to seek justice for the victim, who suffers from mental disorders, as confirmed by a family acquaintance.

The case concerns Aicha, now 32, who has reportedly been subjected to repeated rapes by multiple individuals over the years, resulting in the birth of eight children. Abdellah, a family acquaintance, told Yabiladi that «Aicha’s first assault occurred when she was 14. The assaults continued because of her mental health condition and the fact that she is motherless, while her father is visually impaired».

The family lives in extremely difficult conditions, sharing a single room with Aicha’s blind father and her children. Their situation is described as highly precarious. They have also been exposed to repeated harassment and theft. Abdellah, a local resident, said that «the family had three sheep, which were stolen some time ago».

«Aicha is unaware of the extent of what happened to her»

Because of their harsh living conditions, the family was forced to place three of Aicha’s children with different adoptive families. A fourth child died, and Aicha currently lives with four of her children. Abdellah added that «her most recent child, a four-month-old baby girl, was recently given up for adoption to a family in Agadir».

According to available information, local authorities are aware of the family’s situation. However, the victim has been unable to file an official complaint. It is suspected, according to the same source, that «some of those who exploited her are linked to the family circles of certain local authority aides, which has complicated the legal process», he explained.

He added that the family has largely lost hope of obtaining justice and is not currently pursuing legal action. «Aicha does not understand the gravity of the crimes she has endured, and her father has no means to defend her», he said.

«We, along with others, are trying to move the family away from this area», Abdellah continued. «Aicha cannot remain in a place where she is repeatedly assaulted and becomes pregnant, without any protection».

Following the public disclosure of the case, an individual acting in solidarity provided housing for the family in a neighboring locality. Abdellah confirmed that «the house is modest, but it is far better than the conditions the family is currently living in». The family is expected to move into the new home once renovation work is completed.
