The General Directorate of National Security has reviewed digital content published by Senegalese websites and social media accounts claiming that a Senegalese national was fatally stabbed in Morocco following the Africa Cup of Nations football final.
In response to these claims, national security services conducted thorough investigations and inquiries, which confirmed that no case of intentional homicide or fatal assault involving a Senegalese citizen has been recorded, using the criminal method described in the published content.
Conversely, national security services confirm that the only incident recorded concerns the discovery of the body of an unidentified sub-Saharan individual in the city of Salé. The body emitted a strong odor of alcohol and showed no clear signs of violence or resistance, apart from minor bite marks, which preliminary findings linked to the presence of stray dogs at the location where the body was found.
The territorially competent security services have opened a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with the aim of identifying the deceased. Fingerprints were taken and checked against the national databases of the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police, but yielded no matches. Coordination is currently underway with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), as well as with Senegalese security authorities, to conduct the necessary fingerprint comparisons in order to establish the identity of the deceased.
As part of the investigation, security services have also initiated inquiries into the identity of the individual whose identification documents were shared by Senegalese accounts and presented as the alleged victim of the purported crime. While similarities were noted between this individual and the discovered body, further checks revealed that the documents belong to a Senegalese national holding a residence permit in Morocco. However, field investigations showed that he does not reside at the address provided, prompting additional on-site inquiries supported by technical expertise to determine his identity and whereabouts.
It is further emphasized that the body has been transferred to the hospital for a forensic autopsy, which will determine the exact cause of death.
