The president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF), Abdoulaye Fall, responded on Tuesday to the possibility of sanctions from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the incidents that marred the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) final on January 18 in Rabat.

Speaking to the Senegalese Press Agency, Fall said his federation was «waiting to see what CAF decides» before taking any action. «There is no issue at this level. We are used to this kind of situation», he added.

«Even during this AFCON, we already had cases before the disciplinary committee. We were criticized because some of our supporters used flares, which, in my view, is part of football», Fall said. «In any case, we will show up and deal with it. We are ready, and it is the role of a leader to manage situations like these».

His comments come after the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced that it had initiated legal proceedings with CAF and the FIFA. The action concerns the Senegalese team’s temporary withdrawal from the AFCON 2025 final, as well as the incidents that followed the referee’s decision to award a penalty to Morocco.

According to the FRMF, the withdrawal of Senegal’s players «significantly disrupted the normal course of the match and affected the players’ performance». During the final, the Lions of Teranga left the pitch in protest over the penalty awarded to the Atlas Lions, triggering heightened tensions in the stands, where Senegalese supporters attempted to invade the field.

The day after the match, CAF announced that it was reviewing video footage of the incidents and would forward the case to the relevant authorities for any necessary action.
