Moroccan forward Yassir Zabiri, celebrated as a U20 World Champion with the Atlas Cubs, has caught the attention of Stade Rennais in Ligue 1 as they seek a replacement for their striker Kader Meïté, according to a report by sports newspaper L'Equipe on Friday.

The Breton club is considering a move for the 20-year-old sensation, who is currently contracted with Portuguese side FC Famalicao until 2028. The French daily highlighted that Zabiri «can play in all three offensive positions».

A graduate of the prestigious Mohammed VI Football Academy, Zabiri made headlines by scoring twice in the final against Argentina last October during the U20 World Cup, a tournament where he was recognized as the second-best player.

Following the close of the winter transfer window, Stade Rennais finalized the sale of their young star Kader Meïté (18 years old) to the Saudi club Al-Hilal, securing a fee exceeding 30 million euros.

During the world tournament, Yassir Zabiri made a significant impact by netting five goals and providing an assist, enhancing his reputation upon returning to his club, where he has since scored four goals in the Portuguese top flight.

Having joined Famalicao in August 2024 on a four-year deal, Zabiri steadily earned the trust of the club's management, eventually making his mark with the national U20 team.

In the U20 World Cup held in Chile, Zabiri emerged as the tournament's joint top scorer and was named the second-best player, just behind his teammate Othmane Maamma, underscoring Morocco's historic victory with his exceptional performance.
