Casablanca: Motorcyclist investigated after deliberately hitting police officer

Judicial police in the Rahma district of Casablanca have opened an investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecutor, into a 27-year-old motorcyclist suspected of reckless driving, refusing to comply, and deliberately injuring a police officer while on duty.

According to investigators, and as shown in a video circulating on social media, the suspect intentionally rammed a police inspector who was managing traffic at the entrance to the Rahma area during rush hour shortly before iftar on the first day of Ramadan.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect was riding in the busway lane, which is prohibited for motorcycles. When ordered to stop, he allegedly refused and accelerated, striking the officer who attempted to avoid him and causing bodily injuries.

The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment. The suspect has been placed in police custody pending further investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
