French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin confirmed on Friday the ban on the youth book «I, the Young Muslim Girl» for minors, due to its content inciting hatred. «At my request, this Islamist book was reported to the public prosecutor by the director of youth protection», he stated on the X platform. In this context, the official emphasized the need to protect children «against physical, moral, and sexual violence», but also «against manipulation and indoctrination».

This book by Ahmad Ibn Moubarak ibn Qadhlan Al Mazru’i presents itself as a «guide to good conduct» for young Muslim girls, but includes directives not to «dress like Westerners» and to avoid coeducation. Lawyer Lara Fatimi also filed several reports. Quoted by the media, she indicates that «three examples in these books» have already been flagged, notably passages permitting beheading and stoning to death.

According to the law, these contents «incite murder and are therefore subject to criminal prosecution». As of February 23, 2026, the book has been subject to an order from the Minister of the Interior. Effective from the 27th of this month, the decision is based notably on the law of July 16, 1949, concerning publications intended for young people.

This law reminds us that such publications «must not contain any content that presents a danger to youth when it is likely to incite discrimination or hatred against a specific person or group of people or to harm the physical, mental, or moral development of children or youth».

The same law establishes a commission to oversee publications intended for children and adolescents, to propose improvements. It also «must report to the competent authorities any violations of the aforementioned law». The text also allows the Minister of the Interior to take «one or more prohibition measures».
