The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed sanctions on Egypt’s Al Ahly SC following incidents during its match against Morocco’s AS FAR (Royal Army Club) on February 15, at the end of the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

In a statement, the Egyptian club said it had received a letter from CAF informing it of the Disciplinary Committee’s decision to ban Al Ahly supporters from attending two African matches, with the second match suspended.

The club added that the sanctions also include a $50,000 fine, along with an additional $10,000 penalty for the use of laser pointers.

The match, which ended in a goalless draw, was marked by disturbances from Egyptian supporters, who threw water bottles at AS FAR players and prevented them from entering the locker rooms. The incident prompted the Moroccan club’s management to file a complaint with CAF’s Disciplinary Committee.

CAF had previously sanctioned AS FAR for similar incidents during the return leg on November 28, ordering the club to play two matches behind closed doors and imposing financial penalties totaling $100,000.
