Morocco recorded 53% of new tuberculosis cases in extrapulmonary forms in 2025, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, which marked World Tuberculosis Day on Tuesday.
The initiative aims to raise awareness and support healthcare professionals in identifying and managing these less-known and often difficult-to-diagnose cases, the ministry said in a press release.
The ministry stressed the need to strengthen screening and ensure comprehensive care for all forms of the disease, particularly extrapulmonary tuberculosis, which requires greater clinical vigilance to improve early diagnosis and treatment. A national scientific webinar will be held remotely on Thursday as part of these efforts.
The fight against tuberculosis remains a public health priority under the National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control in Morocco (2024–2030), which aims to reduce mortality by 60% and incidence by 35% by 2030.
The plan focuses on improving early detection, increasing treatment success rates, expanding access to preventive therapies, and reinforcing governance through a multisectoral approach. The ministry reiterated that tuberculosis is preventable and curable if diagnosed early and treated properly.
