The «National Campaign for Returning to Standard Time» has announced the launch of a legal petition starting Friday, March 27, 2026, calling for a return to Morocco’s legal standard time (GMT).

In a statement, the campaign said the initiative comes amid growing public debate over the impact of the additional hour on daily life, as well as its social, health, and educational consequences, particularly during certain periods of the year.

The campaign stressed that the petition falls within the framework of participatory democracy mechanisms enshrined in the Constitution, aiming to give citizens a voice in public debate and influence decision-making by advocating for a return to standard time in line with the country’s societal specificities.

It recalled that an online petition had already been launched on Change.org to broaden support for the initiative. According to the campaign, the additional hour creates daily challenges for citizens, disrupting biological rhythms and negatively affecting academic and professional performance, as well as mental and physical health. It also pointed to difficulties in managing work schedules and commuting.

Through this new step, the campaign is calling on decision-makers to reconsider the current time system and return to standard time, in order to improve balance in citizens’ daily lives.

The group also highlighted the legal and institutional nature of the petition, urging citizens registered on electoral rolls to sign and share it, with the goal of reaching the required legal threshold, while reaffirming its commitment to continue advocacy until the demand is met.
