The Polisario Front has maintained a conspicuous silence following a visit by a United Nations delegation to the Tindouf camps. This delegation was tasked with preparing a strategic review of the MINURSO mandate in line with Resolution 2797, which the UN Security Council adopted on October 31. According to a source close to the situation, this silence stems from unsuccessful discussions between the two parties, Yabiladi has learned.

«Earlier this week, the UN mission engaged with members of the Polisario, yet no agreement was reached», the source disclosed.

Polisario representatives have voiced their opposition to any changes to the MINURSO mandate, especially those involving the organization of a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara.

The Polisario has consistently refused to embrace this approach, despite backing from the Trump administration during two rounds of talks last February. As part of the strategic review, the UN delegation also visited Laâyoune and Mauritania.

Tensions between MINURSO and the Polisario remain high, with the Front frequently accusing the UN mission of bias towards Morocco's interests.

The Security Council is set to review the MINURSO mandate on April 30.
