On Monday, Secretary of State for Housing Adib Benbrahim told the House of Representatives that 96,948 beneficiaries have already received support under the revamped direct housing aid program, out of nearly 200,000 applications submitted since its launch, highlighting strong interest in the scheme.
Responding to an oral question from the National Rally of Independents (RNI) group on the ministry’s housing and urban planning strategy, Benbrahim explained that the new approach shifts support directly to citizens rather than real estate developers, with the aim of improving both efficiency and transparency.
Regarding the Cities Without Slums program, he said the number of households concerned has risen from 270,000 in 2004 to 496,000 by the end of September 2025. Of these, 370,000 households have seen their situation regularized, leading to 62 cities being declared slum-free.
On buildings at risk of collapse, the Secretary of State noted that the current government has addressed 16,466 homes, benefiting around 31,957 households.
He added that strengthening the role of urban agencies, notably through the mobilization of additional resources, has enabled the completion of census and assessment operations, thereby speeding up the processing of cases.
