The Republic of Sao Tome and Principe reiterated on Tuesday its steadfast support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara and its endorsement of the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the sole solution to the regional dispute.
In a press statement following talks in Rabat with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, Sao Tome and Principe’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Communities, Ilza Maria dos Santos Amado Vaz, reaffirmed her country’s firm and unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.
On this occasion, the Sao Tomean diplomat reiterated her country’s full backing of the autonomy plan presented by Morocco, describing it as the only credible and realistic solution to the dispute.
She also welcomed the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, enshrines the autonomy initiative as a serious, credible, and sustainable basis for a political solution.
Amado Vaz further praised the progress made by Morocco in the socio-economic development of its southern provinces under the New Development Model, highlighting its role in promoting stability, security, and regional integration.
She noted that Sao Tome and Principe’s position aligns with the growing international momentum, driven by King Mohammed VI, in support of the autonomy plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
