The central unit dedicated to supporting women victims of violence, under the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, was officially inaugurated Friday in Rabat. The event saw the participation of key officials and representatives from both national and international organizations.
Among those present at the inauguration ceremony were Minister Naima Benyahya, the Attorney General of the King at the Court of Cassation and President of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Hicham Balaoui, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) representative in Morocco, Marielle Sander, and the President of the National Commission for the Support of Women Victims of Violence, Fatiha Chtatou.
Established under Law 103.13, which addresses violence against women, this unit aims to bolster the support system for victims, marking a significant step forward in their protection. This initiative signifies a major advancement in the care provided to these women.
It also aligns with the constitutional provisions for the effective protection of women, establishing mechanisms for dignified support, effective guidance, legal assistance, and psychological and social support to uphold their dignity.
According to the Minister, this new mechanism will play a pivotal role in supervising and monitoring the actions of decentralized units at the local level. Similarly, Fatiha Chtatou highlighted that the new entity is uniquely equipped to welcome and support women, as well as their children.
The unit will also be tasked with monitoring reported cases through the Amane-Laki platform, designed for women in vulnerable situations. It will represent the ministry within the Regional and Local Support Commissions, under the Public Prosecutor's Office's supervision, while coordinating with partner services.
