Two members of the Royal Gendarmerie were shot during an operation to apprehend a suspected drug trafficker, leaving one officer seriously injured. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday in Driouch province.
According to local sources, officers from the Beni Said territorial unit were carrying out an arrest when the situation escalated into an armed confrontation. The suspect, believed to have had accomplices, reportedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire in an attempt to flee.
One officer was seriously injured by bullet fragments, while a second sustained minor injuries. Both were taken to the regional hospital in Driouch for treatment. A search operation is ongoing to locate the suspect.
