The Polisario Front has claimed responsibility for the attack carried out Tuesday on the city of Smara, which involved the launch of three projectiles.
In a statement, the separatist group attempted to magnify the operation, claiming that its militias carried out a «targeted bombardment» against what it described as «enemy rear bases on the outskirts of the city», a narrative that contradicts the facts observed on the ground.
As part of its usual propaganda, primarily directed at residents of the Tindouf camps, the front also claimed that the attack caused «significant losses among the occupation forces», without providing any evidence or details to support these allegations.
However, photos and videos circulating online showed that the projectiles landed in scattered locations. Two reportedly fell near the local prison in Smara, while the third landed near the city cemetery. The incident did not cause material damage, although local media reported that a woman was injured and taken to hospital.
Following the attack, a team from the MINURSO mission arrived at the scene to carry out on-site inspections, examine the impact sites and the type of projectiles used, and document details related to the incident.
