Morocco showcases leadership in implementing the Global Compact on Migration at UN Forum

On Tuesday, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Morocco underscored its leadership by example in implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration, which was adopted in Marrakech in 2018.

During its participation in the second Migration Review Forum, held from May 5 to 8, 2026, the kingdom highlighted its achievements and best practices in this area. These efforts are rooted in a proactive and voluntary approach, focusing on the effective fulfillment of the commitments made under the Marrakech Compact on Migration.

In this vein, Morocco voluntarily submitted reports detailing its track record, broken down into strategies, public policies, and operational programs, all aligned with the 23 objectives of the Compact.

These initiatives span various domains, including the humanization of border management, migrants' access to health and education services, as well as their socio-economic integration and access to employment.

This approach resonates with the guidelines outlined in King Mohammed VI's message to the Intergovernmental Conference in Marrakech for the adoption of the Global Compact on Migration in December 2018, where the sovereign emphasized that this framework «is not an end in itself. It only makes sense through its effective implementation».

In recognition of these efforts, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) noted more than a hundred good practices developed by Morocco.

The country has been encouraged to share its experience within the framework of this Forum, thereby solidifying its role as a committed actor and a driving force in the international governance of migration.
