The European Union Ambassador to Morocco, Dimiter Tzantchev, has strongly denounced the Polisario Front's attack on the city of Smara, which occurred on May 5, involving three projectiles.
In a statement shared on the European Union Mission in Morocco's social media account, he asserted: «The recent attack on Smara should be condemned.»
He emphasized that «this is not the time for escalation, but for negotiation according to Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025) based on Morocco's autonomy proposal, for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution that aligns with the United Nations Charter.»

The European Union's condemnation aligns with similar positions recently expressed by the United States and France.
Earlier this year, in January, the European Union adopted a new position, acknowledging that «genuine autonomy could represent one of the most viable solutions» for the definitive resolution of the regional conflict.
