A Moroccan delegation, spearheaded by the Moroccan ambassador to Dakar, Hassan Naciri, recently made a significant visit to Touba, the spiritual heart of the Mouride brotherhood. This journey underscores the longstanding and profound connections between Morocco and Senegal, marked by strong human, religious, and spiritual bonds.
The delegation received a warm welcome from the General Khalifa of the Mourides, Serigne Mohamedou Mountakha Mbacké, a prominent religious and spiritual leader in Senegal, as stated by the kingdom's embassy in Dakar.
During this occasion, the religious leader conveyed «his profound gratitude to King Mohammed VI, Amir Al-Mouminine, for his high solicitude towards the Mouride tariqa and his support for university cooperation with the Al Khadim complex. The meeting unfolded in an atmosphere of respect and fraternity», the embassy's statement highlighted.
In response, the Moroccan ambassador «extended the fraternal greetings of His Majesty the King to His Eminence, emphasizing the High Solicitude with which the Sovereign regards the Mouride family, as well as all the Sufi families of Senegal, who are pivotal in fostering human and spiritual fraternity between the two nations and embody the principles of Islam, tolerance, moderation, and coexistence».
As a reminder, in May 2024, the CEO of Royal Air Maroc and the mayor of Touba sealed a partnership agreement aimed at easing travel for members of the Mouride brotherhood during major community events, particularly the Grand Magal of Touba.
Additionally, last February, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye welcomed a significant Moroccan delegation from the Tijaniyya Sufi brotherhood in Dakar, led by Sidi Mohamed El Kebir.
The kingdom's embassy remains dedicated to nurturing the religious ties between the two countries. In April, the diplomatic mission participated in the closing ceremony of the Quran memorization and recitation competition at the Grand Mosque of Dakar, organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulemas.
