Morocco triumphed in the sixth edition of the Mohammed VI International Polo Trophy, securing victory over the United States with a score of 9-5 on Sunday at the Royal Guard Polo Club in Souissi, Rabat. From the outset, the Moroccan team, the reigning champions, dictated the pace, while their opponents struggled to keep up.
The Moroccan squad capitalized on key moments to gradually extend their lead. They dominated the first chukker with a score of 3-1, maintained their momentum in the second with a 5-2 lead, and closed the third period at 8-3.
In the fourth chukker, the Moroccans sealed their victory with a final score of 9-5. Prior to this, the Moroccan polo players had already secured wins against Hungary in the opening match and then overpowered Portugal. Meanwhile, Portugal claimed third place by defeating France.
Speaking to the press, Moroccan polo player Sidi Mohamed El Mhamdi expressed his joy over the impressive victory, emphasizing the strength of the American team. He noted that the match underscored the robust ties between Morocco and the United States.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Moulay Abdellah Alaoui, president of the Royal Moroccan Equestrian Sports Federation, awarded the trophy to the captain of the national team.
Organized by the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation, this prestigious international event featured six teams, including Morocco, alongside renowned polo nations such as the United States, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, and France.
The tournament not only provided a platform to compete against top international polo schools but also offered polo enthusiasts a week filled with passion and competitive spirit.
