On Sunday in Beijing, Morocco's ambassador to China, Abdelkader El Ansari, underscored the kingdom's strategic advantages and the potential for a robust bilateral economic partnership during a meeting held as part of the Moroccan-Chinese Festival of Culture and Sports.

El Ansari highlighted that China stands as Morocco's third-largest trading partner worldwide, with trade exceeding $10 billion, and is its foremost economic partner in the Asia-Oceania region.

The historical ties between Morocco and China trace back to the 14th century with the travels of Ibn Battuta to China and Wang Dayuan to Morocco. Diplomatic relations were formally established in 1958, further bolstered by King Mohammed VI's visit in May 2016 and the signing of the bilateral strategic partnership declaration.

This positive trajectory was reinforced in September 2025 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish a strategic dialogue between the two foreign ministries, followed by the seventh session of the Morocco-China Joint Commission for Economic, Commercial, and Technical Cooperation in December 2025.

The ambassador noted that about a hundred Chinese companies are active in Morocco, particularly in strategic sectors like the automotive industry, advanced technologies, and renewable energies.

He also pointed to the strengthening human connections between the two nations, evidenced by the growth in Moroccan students in China, approaching 16,000 for the 2025-2026 academic year, and the increasing number of Chinese tourists visiting Morocco, reaching 200,000 in 2025, facilitated by the visa exemption since 2016 and direct flights between Casablanca, Beijing, and Shanghai.

This festival was organized by the Moroccan embassy in collaboration with a multidisciplinary sports center in Beijing, alongside the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) representation in China and the Morocco-China Business Council under the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM).
