For the second consecutive year, Morocco is hosting the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament that has become a key platform for showcasing Africa’s emerging football talent. From May 13 to June 2, sixteen teams from across the continent will compete for the continental title and a place at the upcoming U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

As defending champions, Morocco enters the tournament among the favorites, looking to confirm the continued progress of its youth football development programs. The Atlas Cubs impressed during the previous edition with performances marked by tactical discipline, technical quality, and attacking flair. This year’s campaign brings a double challenge: defending their crown while living up to the high expectations of the home crowd.

Placed in a difficult group alongside Tunisia, Egypt, and Ethiopia, the young Moroccan side will need to quickly assert its ambitions. The North African clashes against Tunisia and Egypt are expected to be particularly intense given the long-standing football rivalry between the countries, while Ethiopia will aim to disrupt the hierarchy and make a statement of its own.

Beyond the sporting stakes, the tournament represents another milestone in Morocco’s broader football development strategy. The recent achievements of both the men’s and women’s national teams have reinforced perceptions of the kingdom’s growing investment in football infrastructure and youth development. Hosting the competition once again further strengthens Morocco’s position on both the African and international sporting stage.

This edition of the U-17 AFCON also offers several young players the opportunity to attract the attention of international scouts and observers, as the tournament has long served as a springboard for future stars of African football.
