Judicial police in Dakhla arrested an extremist linked to the terrorist group known as the «Islamic State» on Tuesday, based on intelligence provided by Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), according to the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ).
In a statement, the BCIJ said the arrest was part of ongoing security operations aimed at countering and neutralizing terrorist threats targeting the kingdom’s security.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the 22-year-old suspect had expressed intentions to carry out terrorist acts that could seriously threaten public safety and order.
During the operation, authorities seized electronic devices, several bladed weapons of varying sizes, and paramilitary-style clothing.
The suspect has been placed in police custody pending his transfer to the BCIJ, where a judicial investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office handling terrorism-related cases. Investigators are seeking to determine the full extent of his alleged extremist activities and any potential links to terrorist organizations.
