Aminatou Haidar lobbies in Slovenia for Polisario after Smara attack

The Polisario has turned to Aminatou Haidar. Since yesterday, she has been on an official mission to Slovenia to defend the Front’s positions on the European stage. The visit is being coordinated by the Polisario’s representatives in Sweden, Norway, and Slovenia, with Haidar expected to follow the movement’s agenda during meetings in Ljubljana.

The initiative comes two weeks after projectiles fired by Polisario elements struck civilian targets in Smara, an attack that drew condemnation from several countries and international organizations, notably the United Nations and the European Union.

Aminatou Haidar is seen as better positioned to defend the Polisario’s version of events surrounding the attack than the movement’s main leaders, given her greater visibility and influence on the European stage, despite not belonging to the Front’s dominant tribal component.

It should also be recalled that the Polisario did not invite the president of ISACOM to the camps in Tindouf last April during commemorations marking the 50th anniversary of the self-proclaimed «Sahrawi republic».
