The second Global Sumud Flotilla announced that more than 87 activists had launched an open-ended hunger strike in protest against what they described as their abduction by Israeli forces, following the interception of their boats in international waters as they were heading to the besieged Gaza Strip with humanitarian aid.

In a post published on Facebook, the Global Movement to Gaza, Morocco said several Moroccan participants were among those taking part in the hunger strike, denouncing what it described as the illegal interception of the flotilla and the activists’ forcible detention. The movement added that nine Moroccans had participated in the mission aboard eight different vessels.

The organization called for urgent intervention by Moroccan authorities and all relevant parties to secure the activists’ immediate release and ensure their protection.

In an earlier statement, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel acknowledged that all 430 participants in the flotilla, representing 44 countries, had been detained and transferred to Israeli warships.
