FC Barcelona announced on Wednesday that it had closed its youth training academies in Casablanca and Rabat, effective May 12. Without providing details on the reasons behind the decision, the Spanish club recalled that its first center in Morocco opened in Rabat in 2023, followed by a second academy in Casablanca in 2024.

When launching its first academy in Morocco, FC Barcelona presented the initiative as part of its efforts to promote football development worldwide through youth training. In Rabat, the academy aimed to train around 400 children aged 7 to 15, introducing them to the club’s values, philosophy, and playing style through the Barça methodology. In Casablanca, the facility was expected to welcome nearly 500 boys and girls.

«During their years of operation, the two academies implemented the club’s own training model, based on the methodology applied throughout Barça, from the youth teams to the first team, combining a creative and attacking style of play with the transmission of core values such as respect, humility, effort, ambition, and teamwork, with convincing results», the club said in a statement.

FC Barcelona also thanked «all the families for the trust they placed in the project», as well as the «coaches, local staff, and all the people and organizations involved in the Barça Academies project in Morocco during this period».
