The trial of Mohamed Moubdii came to a close on Thursday, with the Casablanca Court of Appeal sentencing the former minister delegate in charge of the Civil Service under the Benkirane II government to 13 years in prison without parole.
Moubdii, a senior figure in the Popular Movement, was convicted on charges including embezzlement of public funds, abuse of power, corruption, and the falsification of private, commercial, and official documents.
The former head of the municipal council of Fkih Ben Salah had held the position continuously from 1997 until his arrest in April 2023.
The case stems from a complaint filed by the Casablanca-Settat branch of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Public Assets.
Before his arrest, Moubdii also served as head of the Popular Movement’s parliamentary group in the House of Representatives and was considered one of the party’s most influential figures.
