Morocco’s annual inflation rate reached 1.7% in April 2026, while consumer prices rose by 0.4% compared with the previous month, according to a note by the High Commission for Planning (HCP) on Friday.

The monthly increase was driven by a 1.2% rise in non-food prices despite a 0.6% decline in food prices. Fuel prices recorded the sharpest increase among non-food products at 21.8%.

Food prices fell mainly due to lower costs for fish and seafood (-11.1%), milk, cheese and eggs (-3.2%), vegetables (-1.8%), oils and fats (-1.6%), and bread and cereals (-0.2%). By contrast, fruit prices rose by 4.7% and meat prices by 1.6%.

The highest monthly price increases were recorded in Laâyoune (+1.6%), Tétouan and Al Hoceima (+0.9%), and Casablanca (+0.8%), while prices declined in Marrakech and Beni Mellal (-0.4%).

Core inflation, excluding volatile and regulated prices, rose by 0.1% month-on-month but fell by 0.3% year-on-year.
