New business creation in Morocco tops 25,000 in three months

Some 25,520 businesses were created in Morocco during the first quarter of 2026, according to the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).

Legal entities accounted for 76% of the newly created businesses, compared to 24% for sole proprietorships, the office said in a statement.

In terms of legal structures, the Single-Member Limited Liability Company (SARL AU) remained the most popular form among newly created corporate entities, accounting for 66.5% of registrations, followed by the Limited Liability Company (SARL) with 32.6%.

Regionally, Casablanca-Settat ranked first, accounting for 39.5% of newly created corporate entities. It was followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra with 14.3%, Marrakech-Safi with 12.6%, and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima with 10.3%. Together, these four regions accounted for 76.7% of all new corporate entities registered in the commercial registry.

As for sectors of activity, newly created corporate entities were mainly active in trade (28.1%), followed by construction and real estate activities (25.2%), various services (19.3%), transport (7.5%) and industry (6.5%).

Regarding sole proprietorships, the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region ranked first with 20.7% of registrations, followed by Casablanca-Settat with 13.3%, Oriental with 11%, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra with 10.3%, and Fès-Meknès with 9.9%.

OMPIC also said that 33,332 trade names (negative certificates) were issued between January and March 2026.
