National team coach Mohamed Ouahbi said on Tuesday in Rabat that the friendly against Madagascar was «an important step» in the Atlas Lions’ preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking at the post-match press conference following Morocco’s 4-0 victory, Ouahbi said the objective of these warm-up games is to put into practice the work carried out in training while continuing to pursue results and convincing performances.
The coach welcomed the team's display, noting that Morocco is continuing to build momentum despite the work that remains to be done ahead of the World Cup. «There is still a great deal of work ahead of us, which is perfectly normal, especially as we still have one final friendly to play», he said.
Ouahbi also praised the excellent atmosphere within the squad, highlighting the cohesion and unity among the players, which he considers essential for success in a major tournament.
The coach expressed satisfaction that the match ended without any injuries, describing the availability of the entire squad as an important positive ahead of the next challenges.
Regarding the absence of Neil El Aynaoui and Yassine Bounou, Ouahbi said there were no concerns about their fitness and that both players are continuing their preparations as planned.
The Atlas Lions will face Norway next Sunday in their final warm-up match before launching their 2026 World Cup campaign.
