Morocco’s national team arrived in the United States on Wednesday ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is being co-hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
The Atlas Lions were welcomed at Newark Liberty International Airport by Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, and the Kingdom’s consul general in New York, Mohamed Aït Bihi. Several members of the Moroccan community also turned out to greet the team on arrival.
Speaking to the press, Amrani said he was honored to welcome the national team at a time when Morocco and the United States are celebrating 250 years of historic bilateral relations. He noted that the Moroccan squad, built around a talented and determined young core, enters the tournament with high ambitions following its historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The ambassador attributed the rise of Moroccan football in part to the royal vision for the sport, highlighting the role of the Mohammed VI Football Academy in developing young talent. He also recalled that Morocco is preparing to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
Amrani further thanked U.S. federal and local authorities for the arrangements put in place to facilitate the team's arrival and ensure the best possible conditions for the players and technical staff, including streamlined immigration and customs procedures.
The Atlas Lions have established their base camp at Pingry School in New Jersey. Drawn in Group C, Morocco will face Brazil, Scotland and Haiti in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Before opening their campaign, the team will play a final warm-up match against Norway on Sunday.
