After dog-eating video, Moroccan YouTuber goes on trial today

The King’s Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Temara decided on Sunday to prosecute controversial YouTuber Ayoub Bn Nsns while in custody and ordered his detention at El Arjat 1 prison pending his first court appearance, scheduled for Monday.

Bn Nsns faces several charges, including «insulting the Islamic religion, killing and dismembering an animal, threatening to commit a misdemeanor, and threatening to commit a felony», Mohamed Amziane, president of the Al Rahma Association for the Care of Stray Dogs in M’diq, told Yabiladi. Amziane said he had filed a complaint against the YouTuber alongside several other associations.

The arrest was carried out by National Security officers in Martil under a warrant issued by the judicial authorities. Bn Nsns had sparked widespread outrage after posting a video on social media during the Eid al-Adha holiday showing himself cooking and eating a dead dog.

The footage quickly drew strong reactions online, prompting complaints from animal welfare groups and leading to his arrest.
