Morocco braces for heatwave and storms through Saturday

A heatwave and thunderstorms accompanied by strong wind gusts and localized hail are expected to affect several provinces across Morocco from Wednesday through Saturday, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).

The provinces of Errachidia, Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Boujdour, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab are forecast to experience temperatures ranging between 41°C and 44°C during this period, the DGM said in an orange-level weather alert.

The agency also forecast thunderstorms bringing 20 to 25 mm of rainfall, along with strong wind gusts and localized hail, on Wednesday between 2:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. in the provinces of Boulemane, Jerada, Figuig, and Midelt.

In addition, the provinces of Tangier-Assilah and Fahs-Anjra are expected to experience strong winds reaching 75 to 80 km/h on Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., the statement added.
