FRMF reveals extent of Aguerd, Ezzalzouli injuries

After their names were removed from Morocco's World Cup squad list, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) on Friday confirmed and explained the last-minute withdrawals of Abdessamad Ezzalzouli and Nayef Aguerd.

According to the federation, medical examinations revealed that Ezzalzouli is suffering from a right knee sprain combined with a high-grade injury to the medial collateral ligament, ruling him out of the tournament.

As for Aguerd, the FRMF said his recovery from a long-standing injury has progressed positively in recent weeks. However, the time required for a full recovery and a return to competition at the highest level means he will not be fit to participate in the World Cup under optimal conditions.

The federation has therefore added Amine Sbaï and Marwane Saâdane to Morocco's final 26-man squad as replacements. Both players had been part of the team's preparation camp in the United States as reserve players.

The FRMF added that it will continue to monitor the recovery of Aguerd and Ezzalzouli. Despite being ruled out of the tournament, both players will remain alongside the squad to support the Atlas Lions throughout their World Cup campaign.
