Polisario silence fuels questions over fighter deaths in Tindouf
DR

The Polisario Front announced that funeral ceremonies will be held on Monday in the Tindouf camps for two of its fighters, including a battalion commander. Both men belonged to the movement's First Military Region.

The Front, however, has remained silent about the circumstances surrounding their deaths. Its official statement merely specified the date and location of the funerals. Just days earlier, the Polisario had claimed responsibility for operations targeting Morocco.

The timing of the deaths has fueled speculation among Sahrawis in the Tindouf camps. On social media, several users suggested that the two men may have been killed in a drone strike carried out by the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) while allegedly preparing an operation against Moroccan positions.

Contacted by Yabiladi, a Moroccan source familiar with the matter declined to comment, saying that «it is up to the Polisario to answer the questions being raised by Sahrawis in the Tindouf camps regarding these deaths».

The announcement comes just days after the death of Lahbib Mohamed Abdelaziz on June 7, in circumstances that remain unclear, amid a series of unexplained deaths and disappearances involving senior Polisario figures.
