Lekjaa says Atlas Lions made no World Cup bonus demands

Morocco's national team players did not request any bonuses ahead of the 2026 World Cup, according to Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) president Fouzi Lekjaa.

«Before leaving for the United States, I met with the players. Not a single Atlas Lions player raised the issue of bonuses with me», he said in an interview with a digital platform affiliated with Qatar's Al Jazeera network.

Lekjaa made the remarks in response to claims that Morocco had «bought» dual-national players in order to persuade them to represent the Atlas Lions.

«They don't need money. They earn millions of euros. What more could Morocco offer them?» he said. «Some national team players even finance charitable projects in Morocco out of their own pockets».

The FRMF president stressed that players who chose to represent Morocco did so primarily because of the country's ambitious football project and their personal attachment to the kingdom.

Lekjaa also acknowledged that the federation was ultimately unable to convince Lamine Yamal to wear the Atlas Lions jersey.
