In the space of just a few months, Ayoube Amaimouni has gone from playing far from the spotlight to becoming a Moroccan international. His meteoric rise has made him one of the most compelling symbols of the new generation of Atlas Lions.
At his initiation ceremony with the national team, the scene drew smiles all around. Standing in front of his new teammates, Amaimouni broke into song as the group laughed and cheered him on. Yet only a few months earlier, few players in that dressing room knew his name, and even fewer Moroccan supporters had heard of him. In record time, the Eintracht Frankfurt winger has covered a distance that some players spend an entire career trying to bridge.
Born on November 30, 2004, in Vic, Catalonia, to Moroccan parents, Amaimouni grew up between Spain and Germany. Unlike many Moroccan internationals, he did not pass through Europe's most prestigious academies. After spells with Rot-Weiss Essen and Arminia Bielefeld, he even drifted off the radar of professional football.
The summer of 2023 proved to be a turning point. Amaimouni joined SpVgg Erkenschwick, then competing in Germany's lower divisions. There, the winger caught attention by scoring 18 goals in 30 matches. His performances earned him a move to Hoffenheim's reserve team in the summer of 2024.
What followed was a remarkable ascent. In the span of just 18 months, he progressed from Germany's fourth tier to the Regionalliga and then to the Bundesliga. On January 2, 2026, Eintracht Frankfurt handed him a contract running until 2031, rewarding a player who had climbed the German football pyramid at breathtaking speed.
A place earned at full speed
When Mohamed Ouahbi unveiled his World Cup squad on May 26, 2026, Amaimouni's inclusion raised as many questions as it did eyebrows. The 21-year-old winger lacked the international pedigree of established professionals and the media attention enjoyed by some of Morocco's most highly touted young talents. Yet the coach stood firmly by his decision.

«We are not selecting players for the future, but players who are ready now», Ouahbi said when asked about his inclusion.
What appealed to the Moroccan coaching staff was his profile. Fast, direct and fearless in possession, Amaimouni embodies a generation shaped by modern German football. He attacks space relentlessly, constantly takes on defenders and is never afraid to take risks in the final third.
His presence at the World Cup also says much about Mohamed Ouahbi's approach. Where others might have favored experience, the Moroccan coach chose to reward performances and merit. Just months after making his Bundesliga debut, Amaimouni now finds himself in a squad preparing to face Brazil, Scotland and Haiti on football's biggest stage.
His rise has been so rapid that it almost feels unreal. And perhaps that is the best way to describe Ayoube Amaimouni's story: a player who, not long ago, was expected nowhere, and who now finds himself exactly where every footballer dreams of being.
