The Arab World Institute (IMA) unveiled its 2026-2027 cultural season on Monday in Paris, with youth as its central theme and Morocco taking center stage through a programme highlighting the kingdom’s heritage, intellectual legacy and contemporary creativity.

The season was presented by IMA president Anne-Claire Legendre at the Paris-based institution, which promotes Arabic, the second most widely spoken language in France.

Morocco will feature prominently through exhibitions, festivals and cultural partnerships showcasing the vitality of its artistic and intellectual scene. The programme is structured around three themes: «Heritage and Circulation», «New Scenes» and «The Making of Knowledge».

Speaking to MAP, Legendre emphasized Morocco’s key role in the season, notably through the exhibition «Long Live the Bride!», which will open the programme and run from September 28, 2026, to February 28, 2027.

The festivities will continue with «A Summer at the IMA», a series of events bringing music and cultural activities to the institute’s forecourt, culminating in the «Tell Me About Your Wedding» parade on July 4.

Another flagship exhibition, «The Secrets of the Alhambra» (November 24, 2026-May 16, 2027), will offer an immersive exploration of the famed Nasrid palace, focusing on its architecture, calligraphy, water features and artistic innovations.

Beyond heritage, the IMA will also spotlight contemporary Moroccan creativity through literary events, festivals and programmes dedicated to emerging musical expressions.

Legendre also praised the strength of cultural cooperation between Morocco and the IMA, particularly its «historic partnership» with the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco as part of the IMA History Days. The 2026 edition will focus on Arab and universal sciences, as well as philosophy.

The «IMA Nomad» initiative will also travel to Morocco, presenting part of the institute’s photographic collections in Casablanca during the inaugural exhibition of the future Museum of Photography and Visual Arts, and in Fez at the city’s new Museum of Jewish Culture.

Legendre is due to visit Morocco on June 19, following a recent meeting in Paris with Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid aimed at deepening cultural cooperation between the two sides.
