For his first official trip abroad, Alexandre Morois, the newly appointed director general of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), has chosen Morocco. With 44 accredited schools serving nearly 49,000 students, the kingdom hosts what the agency describes as «one of the largest and most dynamic AEFE networks in the world».

During his visit, Morois is scheduled to meet with school leadership teams, elected staff representatives and parent association officials. The trip is intended to provide an opportunity to discuss the network’s future and address questions related to its development.

The AEFE chief will also visit several institutions, including Lycée Descartes and Collège Saint-Exupéry in Rabat, as well as Lycée Français International Jacques Chirac and Lycée Lyautey in Casablanca.

The visit comes after months of tensions between parent associations and schools over the AEFE reform and its educational and financial implications. According to the agency, Morois’ visit reflects his commitment to maintaining «close dialogue with all those involved in French education in Morocco, who keep the network running on a daily basis», while ensuring that future decisions are informed by realities on the ground.

The trip also coincides with a meeting of the Strategic Education Steering Committee for the Morocco zone, attended by French Ambassador to Morocco Philippe Lalliot. The annual gathering will bring together school leaders from across the network to review the past academic year and define priorities for the years ahead, particularly in teacher training and the promotion of Arabic-language education.
