Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on Wednesday received Crispin Mbadu Phanzu, the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Minister Delegate to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Francophonie and Congolese Abroad, who delivered a message to King Mohammed VI from President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Mbadu Phanzu praised the excellent bilateral cooperation between Morocco and the DRC, noting that the two countries share long-standing historical ties. He said his visit to the Kingdom also aims to promote his country's candidacy for the post of Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).
Also present at the meeting, Juliana Amato Lumumba, the DRC's candidate for OIF Secretary-General, highlighted the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity between Morocco and the DRC. She recalled that her father, the late Patrice Émery Lumumba, had been awarded a royal decoration by the late King Mohammed V.
Lumumba also praised the convergence of views between Morocco and the DRC on issues of solidarity, unity, inclusiveness and sovereignty, calling for «a Francophonie of the people, with the people and for the people».
