Head coach of Morocco's national team, Mohamed Ouahbi, declared Friday in Houston that facing Canada in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup is «the most important and most challenging match» for the Atlas Lions in the tournament.

«We are ready. It seems the Canadian coach aimed to put some pressure on us with his press conference comments, but we've remained focused on our preparation,» Ouahbi stated during the pre-match press conference.

Ouahbi highlighted that this encounter would be «one of the most significant matches» of his career, emphasizing that his players will do everything to secure their qualification. He reassured fans about Chadi Riad’s condition, following an injury scare during the game against the Netherlands.

He was firm that those starting against Canada would be «the ones who deserve it and are best suited to perform on the pitch». He confirmed that his team is in peak physical condition. «We are gaining momentum as the competition progresses. We have energy and we'll be ready for this challenge,» he asserted.

Ouahbi also lauded the contributions of his technical staff. «We have an outstanding team. We communicate extensively and make the best decisions. Their contribution is crucial to our national team’s success,» he acknowledged.

Emphasizing the importance of staying focused, he stated that «only this match matters». «Canada are a very strong team, and it will undoubtedly be a tough match,» he cautioned.
