Morocco appoints interim committee to lead National Press Council
DR

In a statement released on Friday, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication announced the appointment of the members of the interim committee tasked with leading the National Press Council. Heading the new body is Hassan Jaber, a judge representing the High Council of the Judiciary.

The committee also includes Abdelghani Berdi, representing the National Human Rights Council; Mohamed Benkaddour, from the Economic, Social and Environmental Council; Abdelrahim Ariri, representing press publishers; and Yassine El Omari for professional journalists, the latter two appointed by the head of government.

The committee will hold its first meeting on Monday, July 27, 2026, in line with the legal deadline of ten days following the publication of the law in the Official Gazette. The move comes under Law No. 09.26, which reorganizes the National Press Council (CNP). Published in the Official Gazette in July 2026, the law was adopted by Parliament last May, after the Constitutional Court struck down several key provisions of the legislation in January.
