Ahmed Ahmed : Morocco is capable of organizing the 2026 World cup

Ahmed Ahmed the new president of the Confederation of African Football declared on Tuesday 28th of March during a press conference held in Marrakech that Morocco is capable of hosting the 2026 World cup.

«We are convinced that Morocco could organize this competition just as was done by South Africa in 2010,» said Ahmed in a press conference during his visit to Morocco. The CAF chief was invited by Faouzi Lakjaa president of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Football.

In this regard, the new CAF chief indicated that the 211 federations affiliated to the International Federation of Football Association will vote for the country that is supposed to host the world cup.

Ahmed also said that he is willing to put good governance and transparency as his two major objectives as a new president for the CAF. He also welcomed, during the conference, Morocco’s return to the African Union, and congratulated Lakjaa for the expertise he accumulated in the field.

Moreover, the CAF chief pointed out that beginning from this year the confederation will give every African federation 100 million dollars. The conference was attended by members of the CAF executive board including Mr Faouzi Lakjaa and members of the FIFA council.

The new president of the African Football Confederation, Ahmad Ahmad, was elected on March 16 in the first round for four years as head of the African Forum at its 39th Ordinary General Assembly held in Addis -Abeba. He obtained 34 votes against 20 for his opponent the outgoing president, Issa Hayatou.

According to the Daily mail, Ahmad’s support for Morocco comes after Gianno Infantino, President of the FIFA claimed that the country has the «infrastructure and organizational capacity» to host the World cup.
