The Moroccan singer, Saad Lamjarred has been released under house arrest today nearly six months after he was jailed for raping and violating a 20 year-old French girl.

The 32 year old singer will be «released today and he will have afterwards to wear an ankle monitor», said Eric Dupond-Moretti lawyer of Saad Lamjarred to Yabiladi.

According to a Huffington Post Maroc article, Saad Lamjarred, «won’t be able to leave France» and will be confined by authorities to a certain residence. The ankle bracelet will restrict the singer’s freedom as «he is forced to stay at his place for a certain number of hours decided by the judge (for instance from 7 pm to 8 am)», as pointed out in the official website of the French Ministry of Justice,  a measure that is an alternative to prison time.

Atlas Info indicates that Lamjarred’s passport «has been confiscated by the authorities» and that he «wouldn’t be allowed to reach the witnesses and the plaintiff». Furthermore, Bachir Abdou, father of the defendant, confirmed to Le360 that his son was detained under a house arrest.

For the record, the singer was arrested on Wednesday morning 26th of October at Paris Marriott Champs-Elysées hotel in France. He was accused of raping and violating a 20 year-old French woman.
