Saadeddine El Othmani has seized the opportunity today during the government council to speak about the demonstrations taking place in the northern region of the country, also known as «Hirak». In a speech delivered to reassure the protesters, he confirmed that this matter «just like others of different regions forms part of the executive agenda» of the government. Yet, El Othmani's cabinet members refused to respond to the oral questions raised on Tuesday the 30th of May during a session held in the Chamber of Representatives.

«The government is working on the case of the development of this region. Some ministers went there to examine the situation and the progress of projects. These projects are strategic, and the construction of a hospital is not easy», he declared.

Respond to the demands and consolidate security and stability

El Othmani also insisted that the cabinet is determined to keep its promises regarding the project of «Al Hoceima phase de la Mediterranee», 2015-2019, which was launched by King Mohammed VI in October 2015 with a total budget of MAD 6,515 billion. He urged the ministers in charge of the project to be «efficient».

«We are determined to respond favorably to the demands but in a reasonable and quick way based on our capacity», indicating that the government has decided «to protect the private and public well-being and to consolidate the security and stability of our nation».

On the same page, El Othmani announced that he held talks on the subject with the protesting movement in Al Hoceima, heads of the Interior department, Abdelaoufi Laftit and the Justice ministry, Mohamed Aujjar. «We will give the Minister of Justice a chance to deliver a presentation on the latest developments» in the city, he concluded.

There is yet to know whether the Prime Minister's words will be heard by the population of Al Hoceima who remains mobilized every night.
